     L-Citrulline vs. Citrulline Malate

Have you ever looked at the back of your favorite pre workout container and noticed that it contains one of these compounds?

L- Citrulline and Citrulline malate are two of the most popular pre workout ingredients and are found in many popular pre out formulas, for a good reason too! L - Citrulline is the natural form of citrulline, it serves two main roles in the body. One, is that it helps boost nitric oxide production in the blood which helps blood vessel dilation, allowing for more oxygen and nutrients to be delivered to your muscles.

The second role is L - Citrulline has is that it aids in the ammonia removal process, a compound closely related with exercise related fatigue.

    The difference

The only difference between L-Citrulline and Citrulline Malate is the addition of malic acid to the compound.

The malate portion helps increase your body's energy production through the naturally occurring process called the Krebs cycle, which in brief detail is the series of chemical reactions to release the energy from stored carbs, fats, and protein through the oxidation of acetyl - CoA (the molecule that is involved with carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism) Always watch out for the ratio of citrulline to malic acid, anything less than a 2:1 ratio will result in a less powerful effect and is often associated with lower quality products.
